Are you inspiring? Are you supporting succession and the development of your managers? Are you supporting yourself?

Here are 5 assessment questions I developed which focus on the leadership capability of inspiring direction and purpose.  How strong are your responses to these tough leadership questions?

  1. Describe a time you had to implement a significant reform or change that you knew would be unpopular.
  • What was the reform?
  • What action did you take?
  • How did you ensure you maintained morale and productivity during this reform?
  1. What have you done to monitor the engagement and morale of your operations/delivery staff?
  • How have you used that information to ensure the best possible operational performance and delivery?
  • What actions have you taken to celebrate their success and achievement?
  1. Given the volume of strategic priorities, what actions have you taken to ensure you and your division don’t become overwhelmed by the priorities and pace of change?
  • How specifically have you communicated strategic priorities?
  • What have you done to ensure there is a strong sense of purpose and direction throughout your division?
  • What actions have you taken to ensure staff are confident that the priorities will be achieved?
  1. List specific actions you have taken to develop the next level key leaders in your division to ensure succession planning and talent development?
  • What action have you taken to monitor their development?
  • Are you confident that you have an immediate successor and what makes you confident of this?
  1. What specific action have you taken to ensure that you remain physically, emotionally and socially robust (maintain your own resilience) in order to continue to provide strong, positive and inspiring leadership for your team and to be effective as part of the Executive team?
